What is Panspiritism?
Steve Taylor introduces an alternative way of conceiving consciousness.
In case you haven’t noticed, a theory called panpsychism is undergoing something of a resurgence in the philosophy of mind. [See PN Issue 121. Ed.] As dissatisfaction with physically-based explanations of consciousness increases – and as the ‘hard problem’ of how the brain produces consciousness continues to baffle – that alternative has become more appealing. Panpsychism answers the question of how mind could arise out of matter by claiming that mind was always in matter.
