No Character

DEAR EDITOR: Carolyn Suchy-Dicey’s article about character education in Issue 63 left me greatly concerned. Her statements repeat much of character education myth. The truth is that ‘character education’ is wholly unsubstantiated. Nothing in either theory or practice supports it. Research on the subject has yet to turn up one peer-reviewed study demonstrating any scientifically-validated need for character education programs.
